SUSSEX COUNTY HEALTH COALITIONPREVENTION MINI-GRANTS:
The Sussex County Health Coalition has awarded prevention mini-grants to several community organizations, empowering youth-led initiatives focused on substance abuse prevention. These grants support events and programs that educate, engage, and equip communities with the tools to combat drug and alcohol misuse.
The Laurel Public Library led a teen-driven community health fair, focusing on substance abuse prevention and education, creating awareness among local youth. The Cornerstone Community Center hosted a drug-free skate night, offering a safe space for families to enjoy time together while promoting substance-free living.
The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension 4H Program organized impactful events, including “Escape the Vape,” Narcan training sessions, and “Marijuana and Opioid Education” for community members. Delaware Futures also contributed with their “The War on Drugs Starts with Me” cohort event, empowering youth to take responsibility in prevention efforts.
Additionally, the Dorcas Salvation Foundation held a youth summer institute titled “Rise Above It,” focusing on leadership and substance abuse prevention.
Several projects are still ongoing, including IMPACT Delaware’s “Pause” family field day, which integrates prevention activities with outdoor fun, and Acadia Healthcare/Sussex County Comprehensive’s Overdose Awareness Night on the Circle. Attack Addiction continues to promote recovery and prevention through the Sussex Sober Fest.
These mini-grants are fueling impactful programs across Sussex County, fostering education and community engagement to combat substance abuse from the ground up.
