A collaboration between Sussex County Health Coalition (SCHC), Highmark Delaware and multiple community stakeholders in the Seaford catchment area was formed in 2017 to address the growing opioid epidemic in Sussex County. This group completed a community needs assessment, funded through Discover Bank, using the CDC CAST tool. This assessment along, with a community strategic planning process, helped to inform the work in a more holistic way allowing for targeted efforts in critical areas.
SCHC formalized the Seaford Drug Free Community Initiative and sought critical funding through the Highmark Delaware Blueprint Community Grant and was awarded $100,000 to plan and implement strategies communitywide to address needs identified in the Seaford Catchment area.
The areas identified included strategies that revolved around:
- AWARENESS STRATEGIES
- EDUCATION STRATEGIES
- PREVENTION STRATEGIES
- ACCESS TO TREATMENT
- SUPPORT STRATEGIES
