EMILY VERA DISCUSSES IMPROVEMENTS
January 2018
Mental Health Association
The mission of the Mental Health Association in Delaware is to improve the mental wellbeing of Delawareans through support, education and advocacy. Those of us who experience behavioral health disorders or have loved ones with such disorders sometimes feel alone and powerless.

MHA provides education and support to assist us. We coordinate free peer support groups for participants throughout the state who are experiencing depression or anxiety disorders, or who have lost a loved one to suicide. Peer support is often a vital part of an individual’s recovery, providing much-needed hope and
understanding.

This year, we plan to work together with the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health to continue to expand and improve peer support in Delaware. MHA also provides free community training on suicide prevention, mental health disorders and other related topics. With the growing opioid overdose epidemic, we want to work together to increase fact awareness on substance use disorders, how to get involved to help, and how to access help. We continue to advocate and work towards policies that improve access and treatment for those who need behavioral health help. We are grateful for partners like the Sussex County Health Coalition working toward the same goal to create a happier, healthier Delaware in 2018.
